About the Project

The Ottawa Children’s Festival de la jeunesse is producing a project with the community and professional artists that will be available virtually in February 2021. The project is called “It’s Like….” and features the work of local artists Emily Pearlman and Roddy Ellias along with technical and production support and two other creative contributors from Vancouver. The show is on the subject of how young people have used their imaginations to overcome the anxiety and depression of “lock down” in the early days of COVID-19 – even though they may not recognize that their imaginations helped them escape the worst part of loneliness and isolation. The project will use original music, puppet theatre, playmaking, and theatre “sports” techniques.

The artists are currently working with a group of children, aged 8 to 12 years old, at an Ottawa-area school but are open to working with other schools in Ottawa.  Schools allowing the children to be filmed, and their images used (with permissions and safety restrictions in place) would be preferred.

We also hope to have the sessions become “lessons”, with lesson plan outlines, so that educators may use our project to guide their students through a project of their own.
